Yoshiyuki Kato is a minor character from The Mechanical Heart chapter. He is a crew member of the Cogito Ergo Sum and is the ship's engineer.
Background[]
Before The Mechanical Heart[]
He awakened before many of his crewmates and created various prototypes before the creation of Cube. Only one of his prototypes remained inside the ship that, despite being functional, still lacked some features.
During The Mechanical Heart[]
He is Cube's creator as well as the person the crew often asks to fix or build things as he is skilled at building. He created Cube based on his own appearance and with the intention for it to be a worker robot inside the Cogito Ergo Sum.
Appearance[]
Kato wears white boots, a brown uniform along with some harnesses and a belt. He also wears a pair of glasses and a blue hat backwards.
Personality[]
Kato is very calm and caring. It's shown that he cares greatly about his fellow crew so much that in one instance he is seen crying after having a small argument with Corporal Darthe over the deaths of Kirk, Huey and Rachel. He is known to be very brave, willing to put himself in danger in order to rescue Huey and Rachel when they left the recreation room while the Behemoth was out there. He is very caring towards his creation, Cube, showing it great kindness, which causes Huey to mention that he treats it almost like a living person. This care for Cube is seen in the ending too, where Cube enters the room Kato is in and Kato gives him a hug.
