History[]

The Distant Future: The Mechanical Heart[]

Much of the specific details surrounding the Behemoth is classified information. Successfully recovered from an unknown planet, it was seen as particularly valuable by several members of the global elite, and its study was considered top priority. To ensure its safe transport, the military enlisted a civilian cargo ship, the Cogito Ergo Sum, to clandestinely deliver the Behemoth to Earth under the supervision of Corporal Darthe. Secretly, however, the military considered the Behemoth's arrival a greater priority than the crew's survival.

For the majority of the transport, The Behemoth is kept secure in its containment unit within the Cogito Ergo Sum's cargo hold. The unit is equipped with a control interface, from which members of the crew may observe the beast through a window or listen to its cry.

As recurrent crises begin to occur on board, however, Cube, discovers that the Behemoth has inexplicably escaped its containment. Freely wandering about the ship, the beast brutally massacres two members of the crew, Chief Mate Huey Trumbull and Signaller Rachel Klein. As Cube traverses the corridors of the ship, he must attempt to avoid the Behemoth as it prowls the halls, listening carefully for the sounds of its cry or it's rampaging footsteps. The Behemoth is unable to be fought; if it catches Cube, it will mercilessly destroy him, leading to an instant Game Over.

Kato accuses Darthe of releasing the Behemoth on the crew for the sake of gathering data, but it is eventually discovered that the Behemoth's release was engineered by the ship's mother computer, OD-10, as part of a bid to terminate the crew. As Darthe reroutes OD-10's connections in the ship's Interface Room to allow Cube to fight it, the Behemoth breaks into the room and attacks him as well. As Cube battles OD-10, Darthe successfully manages to slay the Behemoth with his advanced military weaponry. Its corpse is seen during the chapter credits.

As the Cogito Ergo Sum lands on Earth, the Behemoth is confirmed dead by the recovery crew.

Etymology[]

The word "Behemoth" is used for describing something extremely large. Behemoth is Hebrew for "Primal Beast of the land". Behemoth is also a name given to hippopotamus in the Bible.
